Valles Caldera in the Jemez Mountains, drive to it, hike around there, you will see the largest Elk heard in NM.
It's volcanic caldera that exploded 150Mil years ago.

Las Conchas Trailhead, put this name on Google Maps, park at the trail head and do the 1 hour hike, it's really stunning, I just spent an hour with a bear on that trail a couple of weeks ago.
